After the sunrise we will wander down towards St. Katharina’s Monastery and make your stay for breakfast before visiting the Monastery. The monastery lies at the foot of Moses’s mountain, in the place where Moses Said he had seen the burning Bush. The first signs of monastic life in this place are supposed to have taken place already in the 4th. Century e.Kr, making the monastery one of the oldest in the World. Empress Helena, mother of Constantine i, ordered in the early 4. The 19th century e.Kr that a chapel should be built in the place where the burning shrub is reportedly standing. The monastery in its present form was built by Emperor Justinian i, in the 6th century. Century e.Kr, with strong fortifications, to protect the monks. This place is considered sacred to both jews, Christians and muslims, and during Fati mite a mosque was built here, as Muslims protected the monastery, the church and the monks from the Bedouin.
Here you can see the buildings, the walls and the decorations in their almost original form, as well as countless valuable items that have survived until today, and have proved to be an extraordinary treasure for modern scientists, throughout History. The library includes the second largest collection of ancient manuscripts and manuscripts in the world-only surpassed by the library of the Vatican!
